Lori Hedges is the artist behind Inky Mess Press, a home printmaking studio in Venice, California. Her work is grounded in a love of nature, intricate detail, and silly puns and jokes. She began by learning traditional block printing techniques in college, which eventually blossomed into a successful Etsy shop selling hand-printed goods of all sorts.
Although her favorite creative outlet is still handmade linocut block prints on a variety of surfaces, she also dabbles in screenprinting, mixed media, and other printmaking media.
Every piece starts as an original drawing, which is then transferred onto a blank linoleum block and meticulously carved by hand. The finished block is used to print the ink onto the final art piece, either by hand or using a tabletop printing press. Each color in a print is a separate carved block and round of printing.
Because of the involved, hands-on process, each print may have very slight differences in color saturation and placement. This makes each print as unique as the person who appreciates it, beautiful in its own subtle way. (Yep, we're talking about you :))
